With NI hardware and software products, instrument vendors can create IEEE 488.2 compatible products. A system comprised of IEEE 488.2 devices ensures reliability and efficiency. NI modeled the NI-Device API after the IEEE 488.2 to make it easier to create an IEEE 488.2 instrument. This API abstracts the communication bus from instrument-specific firmware, so you can create bus-independent firmware. With bus-independent firmware, you can easily adapt your instrument to new communication buses while preserving your firmware investment.
